Fisherman’s Wharf in Macau en Amsterdamse straat

De gebouwen aan de rechter kant lijken niet echt Chinees? Ze lijken niet Portugees? Het lijkt of ze juist uit Amsterdam over zijn komen waaien naar het themapark Fisherman’s Warf in Macau, een voormalige kolonie van Portugal die sinds 1999 weer Chinees is.

Macau is een schiereiland en ligt ten zuidwesten van Hongkong, in het zuidoosten van China aan de Zuid-Chinese Zee.

De bonte verzameling gebouwen waaruit Fisherman’s Wharf bestaat zijn bedoeld om een indruk te geven van plaatsen in de wereld in de stijl van verschillende havensteden, zoals Kaapstad, Amsterdam, Venetië, New Orleans, Miami.

Het complex bestaat uit meer den 150 panden met daarin restaurants, winkels, bars, natuurlijk een casino en hotels.

Attracties

Onder de talloze attracties bevinden zich het Fort van Aladin, een 40 meter hoge replica van een vulkaan die elke avond tot uitbarsting komt met een achtbaan en het beroemde Potala Paleis uit Lhasa in Tibet is er nagebootst.

In de “Waterwereld van Vasco da Gama” worden voorstellingen gegeven die gebaseerd zijn op het thema water waarbij onder meer presentaties worden gegeven met jetski’s.

“Aqua Romanis” is een winkelcentrum dat op Rome is gericht. Er is tevens een Romeins amfitheater en een openlucht Collosseum met 2.000 zitplaatsen dat ontworpen is om voorstellingen en concerten te geven.

Macau is a special administrative region of China. The name is derived from the A-Ma, or Ma Kok Temple, which was build in 1448.

Macau was the first oldest European colony in China, dating back to the 16th century. The administrative power was transferred from Portugal to China in 1999.

The beautiful historic centre of the city is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. In Macau is also a Theme Park, with buildings from all over the world.

Some festivals in Macao

The mixing of the Chinese and Portuguese cultures and religious traditions for more than four centuries has left Macau with an inimitable collection of holidays, festivals and events.

Of course there is in Macao also the celebration of the Lunar Chinese New Year. It is the most important traditional festival and celebration normally takes place in late January or early February.

The Pou Tai Un Temple in Taipa is the place for the Feast of Tou Tei, the Earth god, in February.

Taking place in February, the Procession of the Passion of Our Lord is a well-known Catholic rite and journey, which travels from Igreja de Santo Agostinho to Igreja da Sé Catedral‎,.

The A-Ma Temple, which honours the Goddess Matsu, is in full swing in April with many congratulant worshippers during the A-Ma festival.

To look on dancing dragons at the Feast of the Drunken Dragon and twinkling-clean Buddhas at the Feast of Bathing of Lord Buddha is in May.

The former Portuguese colony Macau is a Special Administrative Region, commonly known as Macau or Macao. Next to Hong Kong, it is one of the two special administrative regions in China.
